One Piece 1072: The Return of God Enel and the Clash of Swords
God Enel Arrives at Egghead Island
One of the most anticipated characters to make a comeback in One Piece is God Enel, the former ruler of Skypiea who left for the moon in search of ancient secrets. In One Piece 1072, we finally see him return to Earth and land on Egghead Island, a mysterious place that is shaped like a giant egg and has a huge crack on it1.
God Enel’s arrival causes a huge commotion among the inhabitants of Egghead Island, who are mostly scientists and researchers working on various projects. Some of them recognize him as the legendary god who wielded the power of lightning, while others are curious about his motives and intentions.

Vegapunk’s Secret Weapon: The Nika-Nika No Mi
In a flashback scene, we see Vegapunk, the world’s greatest scientist and the creator of many inventions related to devil fruits and artificial intelligence. He is explaining to Kuma, one of his former colleagues and friends who became a cyborg under the World Government’s orders, about his latest discovery: a devil fruit that has the power to manipulate reality according to one’s imagination3.
Vegapunk says that he named this devil fruit the Nika-Nika No Mi (Smile-Smile Fruit), because it makes the user smile like a child when they use its power. He also says that this devil fruit is very rare and unique, as it belongs to a new category that he calls “super paramecia”. He says that unlike normal paramecia fruits that grant physical abilities or transformations, super paramecia fruits grant conceptual abilities or phenomena.
Vegapunk says that he found this devil fruit inside an ancient ruin on Egghead Island, and that he believes it has some connection to the Void Century and the ancient kingdom. He says that he wants to study this devil fruit further and unlock its secrets, but he also warns Kuma that this devil fruit is very dangerous and unpredictable, as it can cause chaos and destruction if used by someone with evil intentions or lack of control.
Vegapunk then reveals that he implanted this devil fruit into Kuma’s body before he was fully converted into a cyborg by the World Government. He says that he did this as a way of preserving Kuma’s humanity and giving him a chance to escape from his fate. He also says that he hopes that one day Kuma will be able to use this devil fruit’s power to free himself and his friends from the World Government’s tyranny.
Back to the present, Kaku reveals that he stole this devil fruit from Kuma’s body after he defeated him in a previous encounter. He says that he ate this devil fruit without Vegapunk’s permission or knowledge, and that he has been experimenting with its power ever since. He says that he has mastered this devil fruit’s power to some extent, and that he will use it to defeat Zoro and prove himself as Vegapunk’s true successor.
Kaku then activates his Nika-Nika No Mi’s power and transforms into a giant dragon made of metal. He says that this is his ultimate form: Dragon Mode. He says that in this form, he can create anything he imagines with his metal scales, such as weapons, armor, or traps. He also says that he can control any metal object within his range with his mind.
Zoro is stunned by Kaku’s transformation and wonders how he can fight against such an opponent. He realizes that Kaku’s Nika-Nika No Mi is similar to Luffy’s Gomu-Gomu No Mi (Rubber-Rubber Fruit), which also belongs to the super paramecia category. He remembers how Luffy used his rubber powers to overcome various enemies and challenges throughout their journey.
Zoro then decides to follow Luffy’s example and use his imagination as well. He says that if Kaku can become a dragon with metal scales, then he can become an asura with flaming swords. He then activates his own ultimate form: Asura Mode.
